Dog Harnesses
A dog harness is a piece of
gear used for dogs that keeps them tied to a leash, when attaching the leash to the collar is undesirable.
However, dog harnesses are not just used for casual walking.
They are also used for “working” dogs, such as those that are trained
to pull a sled, help a disabled person, or haul a cart. Dog harnesses are worn by both working and non-working
dogs, however, and are very useful in either case.
Pet harnesses, especially
those for small dogs, have been growing very rapidly in popularity. Mostly, this is due to the advantages it has
to offer both the dog and the owner:
For one, it keeps the
pressure from the lead from being totally focused on the neck. It redistributes this pressure, which can prevent
choking for the dog.
-
Second, it reduces the chance of the
leash pulling the collar off of the dog completely. Have you ever had a collar slip right off of
your dog as you were walking it? Well, a harness prevents this problem from occurring.
Basically, most harnesses
are made up of two or more straps that secure around your dog's body to equally distribute pressure. This can
enable a dog to pull a sled without having all the weight pulling on one part of their bodies.
There are various different types of dog harnesses available for dogs
pulling sleds, including the popular padded
harnesses.
Some are more popular in
sporting events, while others are more commonly used when carrying freight.
As dogs do more and more in
society, the number of different types of harnesses required for them to do their job increases.
Dogs help a lot of people
everyday. From guide dogs who help the
blind, to dogs who pull wheelchairs.
Dogs are, after all, “man’s
best friend”, so why shouldn’t they get the right gear for their job?
